Lawn full of weeds

Why does my house never look perfect?

May 04, 20262 min read

I’m scrolling through my news feed and see incredible pictures. Perfect pictures.

Families in beautifully organized homes. Precious, smiling babies. Outfits straight out of a magazine. Glowing skin with no blemishes. Vacations that look like postcards.

You know what I’m talking about.

They’re over there living their perfect lives while here I sit in my messy office, no makeup on, in my sweats, looking out the window at a yard that will definitely not win “Yard of the Month,” with a laundry room next door holding a mountain of clothes. Why does my house never look perfect?

Why does my house never look perfect

Of course, I know in my heart that no one’s life is perfect. Things happen to all of us. Even the “perfect” people have laundry to do. I know social media usually shows only the best parts of life.

I know this.

But somehow, that doesn’t seem to matter when picture after picture scrolls by.

Why isn’t my life like that?
Why can’t my house be perfectly organized?
Why can’t I fit into those cute jeans?
Why don’t their babies ever cry?
Why can’t I spend February in the Maldives?

Why does my house never look perfect? Spending the winter in the Maldives.

Why does my house never look perfect?

So I’ve decided something.

I’ve decided to embrace my perfectly imperfect life.

Here, you won’t see the perfect pictures. You’ll see the real world. The one we can all relate to. The one we all live in every day.

The messy.
The unorganized.
The dust.
The clutter on the kitchen table.
The things even the “perfect people” deal with.

Why does my house never look perfect? Overflowing laundry in the laundry room.

This won’t happen overnight. But I am determined to take baby steps toward not comparing myself to others and instead accepting the life right in front of me.

So if you've ever asked yourself, "Why does my house never look perfect?", will you come on this journey with me? 💛

P.S. If this sounds like you, I’d love for you to share this with a friend who needs the reminder that real life doesn’t look like a highlight reel.
